Over the weekend I noticed that the Lithium-ion battery in my laptop is apparently failing. I used to get 2+ hours running the laptop on battery and suddenly I notice that the battery is charging more quickly than expected and correspondingly only running for 20-30 minutes on battery. The system is about 18 months old and for a good part of that time my usage pattern has been - run the laptop on battery until it gets down to 10-20% and then re-charge it. From what I've seen in the newsgroups, it sounds like a lithium-ion battery has a life expectancy of 300-500 recharges and the failure pattern at end of life is what I'm seeing.
I'm expecting to buy a replacement battery (not cheap) and was wondering if there's a better way to extend the life of the battery? I think perhaps a better strategy for extended battery life might be to run off AC most of the time and perhaps do a full power cycle once a month or so. Any ideas? -Alex Wirth's Law: Software gets slower faster than Hardware gets faster! "On the side of the software box, in the 'System Requirements' section, it said 'Requires Windows 95 or better'.
