Hi all,

I'm writing up some notes about X. I'm currently trying to explain
the uses of .xinitrc and .xsession.

.xinitrc and .xsession are apparently of identical format and for
identical usage, and, apparently, identical in every way that I can
tell EXCEPT in the way they are invoked.

.xinitrc (and /etc/X11/xinitrc) are invoked using either xinit or
startx (which is just a wrapper around xinit).

.xsession is invoked when logging in through a session manager such
as [gkx]dm.

Are there any other differences that anyone else knows of?

And why don't startx/xinit and the session managers just use the same
config file?

Also, what other configuration files are of interest in a user's home
directory (esp. on a RH system). Isn't there some silliness
RH instituted with something like .Xclients or something?

Thanks!
