Sounds to me lik,e MacOS7.x. I recall some programs would copy themselves into *several* locations. The default text editor (nor bbedit, but the other one, the Mac equivelent of Windoze Notepad)) I found once in no less than 23 locations once. I don't know if the idea of a Mac $PATH is correct, but I do know that many programs had copies of themselves in various locations, and it would make sense if the only default "path" was in the System folder.
