Hey, all!

I've asked a lot of questions here, so I figure I'd add to the
group knowledge for once. <G>

I recently picked up a Fujitsu P-2046. The thing is beautiful. Tiny,
sufficiently fast, and, more to my purposes, has 802.11b, modem, and
10/100 all built in. But the biggest selling point for me was the
battery life. With the hi-capacity battery and the CD bay battery, this
baby packe a wonderful 14.5 hours of power. Bwahahahah.

Ok. So the plan from the start is to make tis thing dual-boot
Mandrake/Win2k. (I need Win2k for work...)

My recently deceased laptop had just gotten an upgrade to a 30GB hard
drive, and the P-2046 comes with a 20G drive, so I swapped them.

I partitioned the drive with about 10G for Windows, 10 for /, 1 for
swap, a little bit for /boot, and the rest as a FAT32 data drive.

The Win2k install was the usual deal: multiple reboots, the search for
drivers, etc. Nothing major other than that.

So I go to install Linux.... and it hangs immediately after PCI probing
and before the hard drive detection. Waa. OK, so I look around online.
Seems there are people running Mandrake, Red Hat, and Debian on the
P-2040, but not the 2046. (The difference is the wireless LAN card.)

So I try a few of the things they suggest. I added different options to
the boot prompt: disabling PCI probing, using the bios to track IRQ's...
nada. I even made a boot floppy with some guy's kernel on it. It
booted fine... but wouldn't detect the CDROM.

Debian booted Ok, but the installer was so unfriendly, I scrapped that
idea.

Finally I found my key: a new set of options at boot:

boot: linux ide0=ata66 ide1=ata66

No clue why this works. But it did.

The screen does a max resolution (without panning) of 1280x768, but
1024x768 works, too. Just a bit stretched.

There are several pages out there for the 2040, and as far as I can tell
all the info for them is the same as the 2046, except the WLAN.

So....

Coming soon: Wireless LAN and WAN on the Fujitsu P-2046. (...it seems to
be PCI but the interface won't come up.)
