"rpm2tgz" works just fine for me.  I recommend that you run "tar -tvzf
<file> > <outputNFO.txt>" before uncompressing so you can see where the
files are going first.  I've only had an occasional misplacement on my
Slackware 8.0 [kernel 2.2.19] though, and it was easy to fix, even if I
didn't check first.  (I have only done this with binaries.)
