Hi Krister:
Fullscreen magnification can be used without a second monitor now, and
it does work reasonably well, especially if you have a recent X server
(preferably XOrg 11.6.8.1).
You will need to enable the "dummy driver" which gives you a "virtual"
second screen, and then you can magnify from that screen as "source" to
the physical screen as "target".
See the Appendix to the GNOME 2.10 Accessibility Guide:
http://gnome.org/learn/access-guide/2.10/access-guide.html#sysadmin-49
These directions will work with gnome 2.6 or 2.8 as well, as long as you
have a relatively recent version of gnome-mag and the XOrg xserver. A
similar technique works for the XSun xserver provided with Solaris.
regards
Bill

Have it been some improvments with full screen magnification lately?
