Hi Ben, I have Edubuntu (Edgy with GNOME 2.16) running in a PIII 500 mhz with 128mb of ram. Some applications are really painfull to run, like OpenOffice.
The main memory is full used after load the system, so I recommend at least 256mb of ram (I think that this is the GNOME recommendation). I think that GNOME 2.16 can run pretty well in a system with 256mb and a faster HD than mine in a 300 mhz processor. In this computer my HD is not so fast, so where I lost more time is accessing swap and loading applications to maim memory.
