Gnome crashing

Title: Message

All,
I believe my gnome has been going to sleep or crashing. When I move my mouse or hit any keys on my keyboard, 
my monitor still remains blank. I have to enter the following commands to 
awake-up/activate my screen, from my workstation:
       $bonobo-slay
       $pkill 
Xsun
 This helped. What is the command to prevent 
gnome from sleeping/crashing?
