I'd like to upgrade the Launchpad bzr repositories to a newer format: 1.6.1-rich-root. This should have a number of advantages: 1) Pushing up new branches should be significantly faster, because stacking will (or should) work. 2) Local bzr operations should be a bit faster 3) bzr network operations should be a bit faster. 4) This will allow developers to use format 2a repositories locally, which are significantly smaller and faster.
This obviously requires developers use a bzr version >= 1.6.1. This version is available in (at least) the default Intrepid and Debian testing repositories. I'm not going to do this immediately; I'll wait at least a week once we've decided whether or not to do this, so people can pipe up and complain if they don't have easy access to bzr version 1.6.1. There will be some disruption during the upgrade - developers will need to either re-branch their trees, or upgrade their existing trees/repositories to a format that supports -rich-root (bzr upgrade --1.6.1-rich-root will do it) before they can pull. If we decide to do this, I'll have post a full "everything you need to know" mail to the list. Queries? Comments? Conundrums? Do we want to do this?
