why not to have a small application that depends on all libraries or some sort of dummy package that you can install using your distribution's method to get all build dependencies? In ubuntu this is very easy if you package something like gnome-demo and then use apt-get builddep gnome-demo or something like that. Maybe we can add "distro based deps" to jhbuild so when bootstraping in jhbuild so all dependencies will be taken from your distro when available.
