The file was used to store some meta-data of unknown origin. The old
gdict was removed from CVS (by accident - I am the one to be blamed for
it) so I really can't be sure of how or when it was last used; for sure,
not since 2.8. So, I called it "stale" as in "not really used anymore
since a bunch of releases".
Anyway, I guess that "stale" could just go away - it's not that
important.
