Claude,
the /var/log/apache-error.log is getting filled of [error] messages when
damned-lies tries to send an email to an user. You should be able to give the
log a look on your home folder at /home/users/claudep/apache-error.log. Is
there a way to bump the log level?
The mail daemon on the machine is working fine so something should be up with
damned-lies itself.
