Debarshi Ray commented: Version numbers of individual GNOME components, like GTK+ and GNOME Shell, don't automatically imply a major GNOME version bump. eg., hypothetically GNOME Shell can undergo a major internal reshuffle that invalidates all existing extensions without affecting its vanilla UI or other aspects of GNOME.
