Hello fellow gnome-lovers!
gnome-keyring-manager isn't dead, it's just been sleeping! And now it's time to wake it up again! What is gnome-keyring-manager? gnome-keyring-manager is a GNOME application to manage keyrings. Seriously. Also, it lets you access and manipulate passwords and information that you have securely stored in your computer using gnome-keyring (which is already integrated with nautilus). A brief history lesson: The GNOME Keyring Manager project was started by Fernando Herrera and Mariano SuÃrez-Alvarez last April [1] with the dual goals of developing a high-quality application for inclusion in the GNOME Desktop, and to encourage new people to participate in the GNOME community. gnome-keyring-manager was proposed for inclusion in the GNOME desktop for the 2.8 release. It was ultimately decided that more work was needed, particularly on the user interface, before gnome-keyring-manager would be ready for inclusion. The future of the gnome-keyring-manager: James Cape designed an elegant new UI for the keyring manager (a screenshot is available [3], though it doesn't do it justice). Now, this new UI must be integrated into the existing program. The work has already begun; with an early start, the gnome-keyring-manager should be ready for inclusion in the next major desktop release. How you can help: The keyring manager began as a collaborative effort to help new contributors get involved in GNOME, and this is still the case. No matter where your talents are, you can help make gnome-keyring-manager the best application it can be. Aspiring coders, testers, documenters, translators and those with simply great ideas are all welcomed and encouraged to get involved. The source is available in GNOME cvs in the gnome-keyring-manager module under the new-glade-ui branch.
