Libgnome, as well as libgnomeui and others, will be deprecated in the long road to Gnome 3.0, so we have to keep the dependency on popt for the time being; anyway, GOption is really the way to go - as it has more features, it's integrated with the GLib/GTK libraries and it's actually easier to use.
