The GNOME live media has all downstream distribution branding removed - these live images are only GNOME branded. There is no Foresight branding present. Ken starting putting these together 3 years ago after GNOME hadn't had any Live CDs created for a year or two. The other advantage is that these are typically available day and date with GNOME's release (GNOME 2.28 is the first time we haven't had an image made in a while). The live images are created using rPath's build service and are available via the GNOME Dev Kit[1] and [2]. The GNOME Dev Kit was maintained by Ken (and now Zhang Sen) and automatically builds the latest GNOME from GNOME's git repo. If there are other volunteers who are willing to create live media and can meet the requirements above, there's no reason why we couldn't switch to a different provider.
