What problem do you have with the current build system?
(DistUtils is pretty much standard for Python. If the problem is
DistUtilsExtras not being available on your distribution, I'd be OK with
shipping a copy of it in the release tarballs.)

Hi
We all know that autotools sucks but still is the most used build system. It
would be nice if g-a-j could be build/installed using autotools. It will make
packagers life easier.
