Судя по всему скорее надежда на XFCE который упомянул Линус, Gnome 3 может и удобен (будет) для работы на тач системах (предположение), но люди работают на декстопах. Почему-то вспомнился Gnome1 -> Gnome2, Было много всего, стало немного, но терпимо. Gnome2 -> Gnome3 было немного стало нифига.
