Sorry, my bad. That explains why I could not find any mention of it on
the ekiga site - I was misled by the Gnome 2.14 release notes ("SIP, a
popular protocol used in Google Talk" -
http://www.gnome.org/start/2.14/notes/en/rnusers.html).
