With your help I was able to solve both problems:
(1) After making sure no gnote process was running I used sed to insert
the "system read-only" tag to all my note files.
(2) By defining a global keyboard shortcut to 'gnote --search=/' I have
the shortcut I was looking for.
Now remains the problem described in my other email: gnote crashes when
I try to disable a notes read-only state...
