No I'm just confused because you are sending out mixed signals. If it is ok to support Real Player then it must also be ok to support Emacs integration packages to other proprietary software.
These cases are not all similar. See the GNU coding standards for an explanation of these issues. Like Visual C++ or Adobe Photoshop, Right? Since those programs are well known, it is not out of the question to support them. Whether it is a good idea or a bad one is a question of tactics, that depends on the details in each case.
