the 'yggdrasil' software has a peculiar license, that i would like to get some opinions on - similar to 'nmap', the license embeds the entire GPL license (LGPLv3 in this case), but with an addendum, which cancels some of the GPL most important terms - this one allows statically-linked binary distribution with no obligation to provide any source code nor support for re-installation
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/yggdrasil-network/yggdrasil-go/develop/LICENSE my main question is this: doesnt the removal of the obligation to provide source code, and also the removal of the ability to re-install the LGPL library (aka: tivoization), amount to added restrictions? superficially, it is worded as an "Additional permission" (per GPLv3 section 7); but the specific permission granted is the permission to restrict freedom #1 - that does not smell right to me - isnt this effectively granting permission to proprietarize the (supposedly) LGPL library? even if this license qualifies as a FSDG-fit "free software license" (though i am not convinced), i am having trouble understanding why anyone would choose the GPL, only then to remove the unique provisions which distinguish the GPL from permissive licenses i checked the FSD - there was an entry added two years ago; but it was never accepted by an admin - there was apparently some doubt about the license at the time; but i could not find any discussion about it - somewhat ironically, it is classified as a "FSF high priority project" - it seems like it is overdue for a discussion - is it indeed a "FSF high priority project" - is the license acceptable, or is it not? https://directory.fsf.org/wiki?title=Yggdrasil&oldid=82888
