There might be parts of PNG that are already patented, and we might not know about them. Prior art has also never stoped those who wish to cause harm to apply, and get patents for things that already exist. Take the document in Microsoft Word and export it as a PDF file, if you have Word already. It's as simple as that. :-) Please do not recommend the usage of non-free software on these lists, and preferbly to anyone.
