Breathing marks

How can I put a breathing mark into a piece of music?

(It usually looks a bit like an unbalanced V, or a tick; some
publishers use a large comma).

The key thing is that it goes between two notes, not on one.

I've tried:

     c^" {\Large ,}"

but it looks ugly, and the rest of the spacing gets mucked up.
