great; that's done it.  another quick question:  how do i make double

, but that makes lilypond unhappy, and she hangs.

    Han-Wen> is better.

i'd like to have it as an option that accomplishes the same thing; i'm
not always writing a cadenza just because i'm not using bar lines.
