Yup.  I would even volunteer to design the font :)  It would be very
nice if these different note heads would also have different meaning in
the midi file rendering.  In guitar music, you would assign diamond note
heads to a different instrument (guitar harmonics), and empty heads to
a `muted' voice, since they are only a graphical aid.

I seem to remember that MusixTeX had more different heads, maybe it is
worth the while to have a look at them?
