i had this emailed from my lilypond cgi script tonight:

------- start of forwarded message (RFC 934 encapsulation) -------
As promised: "after the election" I'm taking a further look at this
stuff. I used the first score at

http://www.cs.uu.nl/~hanwen/lilypond/Documentation/tex/out-www/tutorial.html

with no success.
------- end -------

sure enough, anyone trying to learn lilypond by following the tutorial
as i suggested they do will be disappointed by watching my copy of
lilypond choke on the scores. i've got 1.0 installed, and if i run
the first score in the tutorial through it, it dies with:

./score.ly:5:10: error: unknown escaped string: `\notes':

replacing "\notes" with "\melodic" fixes it, but people have no way of
knowing that.

i'd like to upgrade my lilypond to one that's compatible with the
tutorial; how far forward do i have to go? rpm is my preferred
format; the most recent rpm is 1.0.18.uu1. would this be good enough?
if not, or if i should simply go further, could you make an rpm of the
most recent stable version, han-wen?

thanks,
