i upgraded my lilypond and changed the script so that all of these are
set:
GS_LIB /usr/share/lilypond/afm
GS_FONTPATH /usr/share/lilypond/ps
LILYINCLUDE /usr/share/lilypond/ly:/usr/share/lilypond/afm
MFINPUTS /usr/share/lilypond/mf:"${MFINPUTS:=":"}
TEXINPUTS /usr/share/lilypond/tex:"${TEXINPUTS:=":"}
but when i try to process a score, i get:
