Its in INSTALL.txt, I think.

Yes: 

        mkdir /tmp/`whoami`/usr
        cd $HOME
        ln -s /tmp/`whoami`/usr .

this puts the contents of $HOME/usr into /tmp.  Beware that many
systems regularly clean out /tmp, either at reboot or periodically.
