It doesn't, but supporting more compilers then egcs is unlikely to
make LilyPond run on more platform.  It would give us an enormous
headache in detecting and catering for every variant of every compiler.

Making LilyPond run on other versions of C++ is something to consider
when the standard is settled down, and all compilers implement that standard.
