I think you are quite right, but being protective of your works does
not change this: there will still be jerks. Is it better to prevent
the jerks from to do bad, or allow the "good guys" to do good?

Just a few days ago, I read an interesting view on on-line "piracy"
(excusez le mot) at http://www.photo.net/wtr/thebook/images.html.

Stopping other people from using your creative work probably won't
increase your ability to sell that creative work and will cost a
tremendous amount of time and money; it is usually better to build
a hall of shame and devote yourself to creating new works.

This was the summary, but you should read the original: it gives you a
nice new way of thinking.

But going back to the real question, what to do with online scores?
The question boils down to "Is a transcription of a score a Work of
Science or a Work of Art?". IMNSHO using LilyPond definitely not
qualifies as"Art", so I guess using the GPL for LilyPond input makes
sense.
