Since Lilypond no longer compiles on the 5.2 compiler, you have to do
a fair amount of upgrading in any case.  I used Jeff Covey's RPM, and
only had to install egcs, cpp, binutils, and libg++ from the 6.0 cdrom
(as far as I remember; I'm sure I didn't do RPM, anyway).   

Unless you have a fast link for downloading, I don't recommend trying
to install any recent lilypond without access to a 6.0 cdrom.
