Dear fellow hackers and LilyPond addicts,

LilyPond 1.2 is imminent, and I'd like to explain what is going to
happen when I do the release. I'll go on a holiday shortly after the
release, so I hope you are all prepared to answer questions on the
mailing lists. I won't be there to fix stuff, but in the event of
catastrophes, try bugging Mats (I am going to Stockholm).

I am just putting up 1.1.62, and after that release there will be no
new features before 1.2. I moved most of the 1.2 TODO items to the
"after 1.2" section. My plan is to spend the next week fixing the
last remaining bugs; things that I (and, hopefully Jan too) do plan to
look at are:

* Auto staff switching

* Remaining spacing bugs

* Slurs on grace notes (perhaps also dynamics)

* Vertical positioning of dynamics, dynamics font issues.

* "holes" in the postscript font.

I think these are the most serious issues that still aren't right.
But, as always, I don't promise anything.

After the bugfixing I'll spend a week updating the documentation,
while the C++ part of LilyPond should remain stabilized. I hope that
this will prevent any embarassing "Brown Paper Bag" bugs. I am
planning to do the final release on July, 30 (Friday)-- which would
mean that I put 1.2 on cs.uu.nl and do a posting in gnu.announce and
comp.os.linux.announce.

I hope that someone else will take care of

* building packages for W32, RH and Debian

* uploading to
  - metalab.unc.edu
  - ftp.gnu.org
  - ftp.dante.de

* announcements to relevant mailing lists (eg, ABC, musixtex, mup,
what-have-you)

Lastly, I would welcome comments on my announcement for 1.2. It
follows here.
