Hello!
I tried my the Dvorak bagatelles once again with
lilypond 1.1.62.
1. About ties (perhaps slurs, too?)
When tieing notes in a chord, all my printed music mostly follow this
scheme (assuming a stem direction of up; reverse everything in the
other case):
the lowest note in the first chord gets a tie bending down
the highest note in the first chord gets a tie bending up
the second lowest in the first chord note gets a tie bending down
the second highest in the first chord note gets a tie bending up
(continue until all notes that need to be tied are tied.)
(if a note doesn't need a tie, then count the note, but don't
draw the tie)
Of course, as always, there are exceptions when the ties might
collide with ties of other voices...
Right now, Lilypond seems to draw the ties for the first two
voices in the same direction.
2. Ties/slurs at a line break
The tie/slur continuations on a new line shouldn't start
at the beginning of the line, rather after the key or time
signature. (sometimes, slurs seem to work, though?!)
3. Multiple slurs/ties
It seems a little ugly to me if two slurs or ties start/end on
the same note, because they start at the same spot. There
should be some vertical space between the end points:
\score {\notes \context Voice = VA \relative g' {
[g8.(( )fis16 fis8.( )e16 e8.( ))d16] }}
4. Slurs and ties between Voices
Sometimes the inability to produce slurs or ties between
different voice contexts causes headaches.
5. Dotted chords.
While Lily does well now with dotted seconds, other intervals
look strange: try
\score {\notes \context Voice = VA \relative c' {
<g4. e'> <g'4. e'> <a4. e' a> <a,4. a'>} }
6. Middle line stem direction
This is a really important thing to me (I mentioned this once):
I really would like the note on the middle line to have its stem
down when \stemboth is set.
7. Missing shift
Please try
\score {\context Staff=a \notes \relative g'' {
<
\context Voice=x {\shifton \stemup g2 f}
\context Voice=xx {\shifton \stemdown e2 ~ \stemup e4 dis}
\context Voice=xxx {\shifton \skip2; \stemdown b2}
>
}}
The e4 isn't shifted to the right.
8. In the MIDI output, very many notes 'get stuck', i.e. they
aren't turned off and continue to sound on and on...
Hope this helps a bit to improve Lilypond
Cheers,
Dirk Lattermann
