Thanks for the bugreports.  mudela-convert was intended to be used
with \version.  I will have look (and check if .2 works for you.)

You should run the profile/login scripts supplied with the RPM. On
redhat these are in /etc/profile.d ; they are run automatically if you
login.

No, they are MF making the fonts.  The @ signs are for scripts that
need dimension information from MF.

You get measure numbers, isn't that enough?
