I found the omission of brackets even more disturbing.

Would it not be better if the notes in tuplets were all of a length and
direction as if they were beamed, and then lay the bracket parallel to
and beyond the stem ends and beams that exist? If the beams go
underneath, so does the tuplet bracket.

The failure of lazy good-for-nothing bums engraving music centuries ago
to use tuplet brackets for *all* tuplets has led to the practice of
"beaming on beat" and placing rests on stems. These complexities are
futile, counterproductive, and totally unnecessary if the tuplet bracket
is used for *every* tuplet. Just because composers scribble that way is
no excuse.

For example, what is this?:

Notation ought not to be a puzzle.
