Then, the left barline could be interpreted as a staff
grouping line,
-------------
A staff grouping line is not a barline, then? Why not
use a double bar for staff grouping, so that barlines
are always barlines? That was my purpose.
=================
I am more comfortable with orthogonal brackets for
pedal, slurs for triplets, and straight brackets for large
value
tuplets, e.g. 23-tuplet, which could spread over 2
measures.
--------
That's all great, except that you should become very
uncomfortable with a curved bracket. "Slurs for
triplets" is a really really really bad idea.
When you add those
to slurs and phrase marks, you make music for instruments
which really do slurs incomprehensible. A spread bracket
is an
improvement over the curved bracket, period.
A spread bracket is better over beams, period. If you
have a long tuplet, a spread bracket could identify it
as a tuplet instead of 8va or pedal marks or whatever.
Slurs, phrase marks, ties, and grace note connectors are
enough cases for curved lines, and that is why a spread
bracket is needed, and a curved bracket should never be
used and a spread bracket should be used instead.
I had to tell people about "slurs for triplets" almost
a year ago in order to shoot it down as a bad idea, and
I cited lots of examples of bad notation from Schott to
do so. Their best engravers never accepted it, so no
one here was familiar with it then, unless I
misunderstood.

However, I may want to make a split-leaf book at some
point in
the future.
----------
Why? Is paper so expensive that you would want to put up
with that nonsense? For every penny you save, the
binding will cost a pound more.
===============
Maybe more difficult for *you* to read, but
what about people who are used to it?
------------
The fact that people can get used to really bad
notation ideas is no excuse for foisting them on more
people. If you are putting two voices on one staff you
are forced to put the phrase marks at the beams.
"Forced" is the word I used. I do
not believe that people are used to seeing that when
one voice is on a single stave, but that is what you
have said. I'm sure you didn't mean it :-)
