Repeats/voltas appear broken

in 1.3.24 ...  the input/test/repeat.ly file produces no repeat
symbols. 

I get this:

repeat.ly:9:36: warning: Junking request: `Lyric_req':
                          De eer- ste < { maat } { moet }
                                                          >

repeat.ly:10:21: warning: no one to print a repeat brace:
                          \repeat fold 2 {
                                           }


And for repeat-volta.ly:

warning: lily-guile: Unknown bar glyph: `'

And only left-facing repeat symbols come out in the dvi file.
