Well, I eventually understood my confusion, and evry newby will stumble the same
: ly2dvi is the culprit : everytime something goes wrong it says :
========
ly2dvi hmm, I could not find an output file name
========
which is not a very explicit message.
Of course lilypond reports a better error message just before but it took me a
while to understand that as it looks like the continuation of the huge stream of
traces and under the quantity it gets overlooked.

To improve this I suggest :
1/ make sure the lilypond error message sticks out by putting some blank lines
before any report of a fatal error.
2/ eliminate that annoying (useless ?) ly2dvi message or keep it when using some
developer level trace, but not for the average user.

Alain.
