I see what you mean. I didn't know about automatic melisma, I will read
about it. Maybe we can request a feature for lily to use bars OR ties for
the melisma option. Or else maybe a kind of "invisible tie"? Otherwise, I
might be able to write a perl program to insert the empty syllables as
needed when the music and lyrics are combined.
