Interesting. If you have time enough, you might want to try making
editable, you'd get a GUI editor for free. :-)

Yes, but note that  the [
 
 \simultaneous{ [ c8 e } f ]

is syntactically equivalent to a note.   I prefer

>   [ <c8 e> f]      % really [ \simultaneous{c8 e} f]

but it 's impractical to forbid the former syntax.
