There's a config script that sets these variables in
./buildscripts/out/lilypond-profile. In a Red Hat install, this file
is dumped to /etc/profile.d/lilypond-profile.sh (note the .sh) and
those files are run when you login (and use bash). You may have to
put the script there by hand. Maybe SuSE doesn't run these scripts?
