Debian Installer for GNU/Hurd, for example, never worked well. For some reason they never did install the grub into the mbr (which is not hurd specific operation). The other problem with debian-installer for hurd is that it required user to manualy start /native-install (twice) to bootstrap the system. I do understand that the stuff that native-install does could not have been done using linux live cd. But they could have put it into some init script so that the users don't have to think about that. For example, see AMS's installation. It doesn't have any installer, but it is very user friendly, and you could easily build an install CD (linux, hurd, *bsd, or even windows based if there were mkfs.ext2 on windows) that would partition the drive, install his stage1 of gnu/hurd and then just reboot and everything is done automaticly. > > let alone actually install anything. I don't think that there should be an installation manual. Or at least, I don't believe that the installation manual should be needed to install the system... -- Filip Brcic <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> WWWeb: http://purl.org/NET/brcha/home/ Jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ# 40994923 Yahoo! brcha MSN: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
