I wondered about this.  It sounds like this will be fine.  As long as
I can get a pointer to an Xdrawable, plotutils is happy.

AFAIK gnuplot doesn't have anything like plotutils' libplot, so
embedding it would be a PITA.  Also, libplot is low enough level, so
that you can easily add things like pie-charts, even though plotutils
itself has never heard of them.  It handles rotations, scalings, other
affine-transformations, and getting these right for postscript,
screen, xfig, hpgl, or tek plotter output is it's problem.

I really haven't used it much yet, but it looks like it might be the
best tool for the job (unless we wanted to use mesa :> -- whose
postscript driver is fairly weak right now).

We'll see once I get going.  The biggest problem I can see with
plotutils is that there's no library interface to the higher-level
graphing you can do with it's command line "plot" tool.  I've spoken
to the author, though, and it should be on the way.  Meantime, I can
just call plot and have it pop up a window...

Oh, and the latest GNOME's have a really nice gnome-money icon that we
could probably have if we like it.
