By leaving up to the path, you have a support headache.  Some users will
have /usr/local before /usr/ccs/bin and others the opposite.  The past
four places I've been /usr/local/bin/make was renamed
/usr/local/bin/gmake just for that reason.

Non-determinism is bad.
