It's been rumoured that cs536 Project account 21 said:

rm conifg.cache then try again

> checking for perl... (cached) /usr/bin/perl
> ./configure: /usr/bin/perl: not found
> ./configure: /usr/bin/perl: not found
> configure: error: Found /usr/bin/perl reports version

Its possible that you have a very old or broken version of perl
