fyi, nana is also available as an rpm.

How did you run the 'configure' script? I noticed that other people
were having problems when they explicitly specified the location of
packages for configure, instead of letting the script find them itself.

Try this:

1. Delete the file 'config.cache' in your gnucash-1.2.3 directory.

2. Run 'configure' for 1.2.3 without any arguments.
 
3. Now try building it again.

I think 1.2.3 is the most stable.
