More or less.

I have nothing against having perl support, nor against having a perl
module that people can use that can use the engine to
read/write/manipulate data, but I'm just not anticipating any perl
bits inside the app proper.

And it's not that we wouldn't support perl stuff either.  It'll get
supported if people support it.  I guess what I anticipate is a
subdirectory in the source tree with all the perl stuff in it, useful
scripts, build infrastructure for a perl engine module, etc.
