On a machine whose make is not GNU make, compilation fails in the lib
directory.
Here is a patch which will accommodate systems whose GNU make is not
named make. This problem is also in the configure.in file all the way at the
bottom. I haven't looked into a fix for this yet, but I believe that it's
possible to
use a flag that can be generated with autoconf to overcome this problem.
