I see that the patch which is included in PR #11 changes the
calculation of *position.  However, it doesn't re-set it with the
gtk_editable_set_position() function.  Why?  Is there another way to
set the position and what position do we set?  some sort of position
in the editing register?

I don't know a lot about patches, but AFAIK, the patch in PR #11 is to 
go against lines 717 - 730 in gnucash-sheet.c, right?  The place which 
I reference above was all lines 788 - 800.  I don't know why one way
to do the calculation is better than the other, so I can't evaluate
the patch on its' own merits.  

gnucash.gnome makes okay, and runs with this patch applied.  I am not
sure how to exercise that piece of code, so my testing was to open
gnucash, add two new cash accounts, and add two transactions.  The
first one was a payment of $23, and a deposit of $100 next.  No
segfault.  :-) I don't know if this ran through that code or not.
